Matt Robert – Wednesdays at Nu Cafe
December 8, 2011
Join me on Wednesday evenings 6-8 at Worcester’s Nu Cafe for a couple of sets of new and old originals drawn from a long career as a solo artist and as a member or a number of local bands.
I also play covers drawing on a range of eras and styles, like jugband blues, jazz, American and British folk. You’ll hear Washington Phillips, Huey “Piano” Smith, Gus Cannon’s Jug Stompers, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armnstrong, Blind Blake, Robert Johnson, Mississippi Jon Hurt, etc.
You may also hear modern acts, like Wilco, The Decemberists, Modest Mouse, Son Volt, Grateful Dead, Cake, Beatles, Gram Parsons, Ryan Adams, etc, etc.
I play standard and open-tuned guitar and slide, mandolin, banjolin, banjo, and harmonica.
Nu Cafe is a great recovered factory space with lots of booths and tables, great coffee, tea, smoothies, sandwiches and baked goods, and free wi-fi.
I continue to raise money at these shows for The Worcester County Food Bank, 474 Boston Tpke, Shrewsbury, MA 01545-3948
(508) 842-3663.
